Do you connect to people on LinkedIn from your mobile device? You’d be in the minority if you didn’t, to be honest – with around 50% of us choosing out mobile devices as the preferred way to access the business-focused social network.
It’s a commonly held belief that you can’t send anything other than the pro forma “I’d like to add you to my professional network on LinkedIn” – but you totally can! And frankly, you should personalise your connection requests! It’s much more personable, friendly and individualised.
There’s a whole school of thought as to whether LinkedIn should be used to create new connections, or associate with existing ones you already know – but one thing I can say with absolute certainty is, I’m going to pay a whole lot more attention if you explain to why you want to ‘add me to your professional network on LinkedIn’.

If you select the individual’s profile, hit the ⋮ menu button in the upper right corner and choose “Personalize Invite” – add your text and boom – personal!
