Ian McConnell was looking to go into self-employment operating a cleaning business. Our business advisor, Siobhan Masterson, helped Ian through 1:1 meetings and recommending Primed for Starting Up workshop.
While we worked with Ian, we set out with the aim of aiding Ian to gain business knowledge to allow him to move forward into self-employment. Ian has now met his objective as he has registered his business and is operating his cleaning business, primarily windows and carpets.
Prior to becoming involved in the activity, the participant was unemployed. He had previously been working away but due to personal circumstances needed to establish work locally, that would fit around the needs of his family.
The participant had practical skills required to execute his cleaning services but lacked the required knowledge to effectively promote his business and manage his book-keeping. This lack of knowledge was a barrier in the participant being confident in launching his business.
Participant attended an initial meeting to determine his needs and skills gaps. He was then directed to an appropriate workshop that would address these areas.
Further 1:1 meetings allowed more business planning to take place, developing the participant’s knowledge and skills. This enabled the participant to produce a detailed business plan and cash flow projection prior to launching his business.
The participant has now launched his own business, providing an income for his household whilst working around his family commitments. The participant is building up his client base, effectively promoting his business through networking and social media and successfully managing his bookkeeping.
Participant plans to develop his business, offering a greater range of cleaning services, recruiting a member of staff and acquiring another vehicle and equipment, to increase his earnings.
