Course Overview

The Office Skills Bootcamp is a practical programme with a mix of face-to-face training and online support to help you feel more confident about using the complete package of Microsoft Office products.

This programme is for small/medium business owners, or employees of small/medium businesses, based in York/North Yorkshire that want to increase their office skills to allow them to work more efficiently and effectively. They will use IT tools to design, create and use a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) suitable for their organisation.

What you’ll learn:

Participants will learn the essential features of Word and how to create, format, and customise documents. They will be guided through the interface, text manipulation, and document organization. The course will provide hands-on exercises to reinforce the learning process.

Building upon skills learned in Unit 1, Unit 2 will teach participants advanced techniques in Microsoft Excel. Attendees will learn how to handle complex data sets through functions like “VLOOKUP”, “IF”, and “SUMIF”. The course will also cover advanced charting techniques and dashboard creation to visualize data in compelling ways.

Participants will discover more advanced ways to organize, filter, and manipulate data, along with the use of macros to automate common tasks and save time. The course will provide ample hands-on practice, enabling attendees to apply these new techniques immediately to real-world data scenarios. By the end of the course, participants will have a strong grasp of Excel’s advanced features and be able to create effective spreadsheets for data analysis.

Unit 3 of the Office Skills Bootcamp focuses on mastering the use of Microsoft PowerPoint. Participants will learn how to create dynamic and visually appealing presentations. The course covers topics such as creating and formatting slides, adding multimedia elements, and designing effective slide layouts.

Participants will also learn how to add animations and transitions to enhance the visual impact of their presentations. The course will provide hands-on practice exercises and guide attendees through creating engaging and professional-looking slideshows. By the end of the unit, participants will have the skills to create compelling presentations that captivate their audiences.

Unit 4 of the Office Skills Bootcamp focuses on mastering the use of Microsoft Outlook. Participants will learn how to effectively manage their email, contacts, and calendar. The course covers topics such as composing and organizing emails, creating and managing contacts, and scheduling and managing appointments.

Participants will also learn how to utilize Outlook’s powerful features such as creating rules and filters, setting up automatic replies, and organizing emails into folders. The course will provide hands-on practice exercises and guide attendees through maximizing their productivity with Outlook. By the end of the unit, participants will have the skills to efficiently manage their email, contacts, and schedule using Microsoft Outlook.

Unit 5 of the Office Skills Bootcamp focuses on mastering the use of Microsoft Access. Participants will learn how to create and manage databases, design tables, and establish relationships between data. The course covers topics such as creating queries to extract specific information from databases and generating reports to present data in a structured manner.

Participants will also learn how to create user-friendly forms for data input and apply advanced techniques like creating calculated fields and using macros to automate tasks. The course will provide hands-on practice exercises and guide attendees through building robust and efficient databases using Microsoft Access. By the end of the unit, participants will have the skills to effectively organize, manipulate, and analyze data using Access.

Unit 6 of the Office Skills Bootcamp focuses on creating impactful elevator pitch presentations. Participants will learn the essential elements of a successful elevator pitch and how to effectively communicate their ideas in a concise manner. The course covers topics such as crafting a compelling opening, developing a clear and concise message, and structuring the presentation for maximum impact.

Participants will also learn how to use Microsoft PowerPoint to create visually appealing slides, incorporate multimedia elements, and deliver their elevator pitch with confidence. The course will provide hands-on practice exercises and guide attendees through creating persuasive elevator pitch presentations that leave a lasting impression. By the end of the unit, participants will have the skills to confidently present their ideas in a concise and compelling manner.

Qualification: Mapped to a Level 3 Diploma.

Training typically runs from 09:00 to 17:00. Lunch and refreshments are included. Training takes place across York and North Yorkshire. We always find a fantastic location local to you.
