How to Improve Your Social Media to Grow Your Business

Table of Contents

As a small business owner, you don’t have hours to spend improving your social media accounts, however, there are a number of ways to improve your social media accounts by doing very little.

These adjustments to your social platforms can boost business growth and get you more customers, with very little time spent on it.

Improve your bio

Your bio description is the place to highlight what you do, who you work with, and a call-to-action in a very short space of time. A good way to think about designing your profiles is “what do I want new visitors to know?”. Introduce them to your brand by providing them with a brief description telling people who you help and how you help them. Telling them who and how you help people is a great way of pre-emptively and naturally segmenting the audience.

Use relevant hashtags on Instagram to your business

Using relevant hashtags on Instagram is a great of gaining new followers and reaching a relevant audience.

Here is how you find relevant hashtags:

  1. Enter the search tab and search for one the hashtags you have already used and new hashtag you’re thinking about using.
  2. Once you click on the hashtag, you will see “related” hashtags across the top of the screen. These are hashtags that other people are currently using with your selected hashtag. If you swipe to the left where it says “related” you will see more related hashtags you should consider using.

Ask questions to your audience

One thing you must always remember on social media is you are dealing with real people. These are the people you are trying to converse with and boost your engagement with. Some people just think I’ve only got 90 followers why should I bother asking a question? Try thinking about it like this; the 90 followers are 90 people in a room, listening to everything you say. That’s a lot of people! Treating your followers like actual people will help you build a deeper relationship with your followers. These people will turn into your biggest fans, always buying your products and services as well as sharing your brand with everyone they know.

Social media isn’t just a one-way straight, it has the word “social” in it for a reason. By developing a deeper relationship, you will begin to learn exactly the type of content, products, or services they want to purchase. Knowing exactly what your customer will buy puts you at a huge advantage for being the most helpful as possible.

Change your job title

This is one of the easiest change to make. If you look at someone’s social media profile, whether that be on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram etc, you want to learn as much as you can about that person. Why not add your job title and where you work? It’s a simple and effective way of directing traffic to your business social media account.

Respond back to every comment

You’re going to need to make the time to respond to every comment. Think about the 90 people in a room again. Imagine you were in this room, and 20 of these people gave you a compliment. Would you just ignore them without saying thank you? No, you wouldn’t.

That’s how you need to treat everyone on social media, they could be new client or customer that you are just ignoring. Taking the time to respond will make you stick out from other businesses that won’t take the time to respond. Also, it creates the impression that you’re a polite and friendly business.

A good rule to follow is to match the length of the comment in your comment. For example, if someone comments saying “Love it!” you don’t need to write a 200-word essay thanking them. But if someone leaves a thoughtful comment, spend a little more time crafting a response. Write how you would say it out loud to the person. You will sound more authentic if you write like you’re speaking directly to that person.
